I am a fish keeper and have 10 tanks in my home with around a 100 fish and many more plants. I love aqua scaping and building the perfect ecosystem for my fish, shrimp, snails, and crabs. But how do I monetize the hobby and how can you do the same for your hobby?
The simple answer is to sell the answer to the problems you ran into and sell the excess.
Let’s start with excess, at times my fish breed a lot and I, at times, have many more fish than I can house. A great way to solve that issue is to sell the extra fish to other hobbiest. I have this same issue with plants. All 10 of my aquariums at my home are planted with live aquatic plants. Some even have house plants growing out of them! And over time the plant growth becomes too much for the aquarium, limiting swimming space and blocking out light. The solution? Sell the excess.
This is probably the simplest way to monetize your hobby. But how do you do it? In my case, I sell my excess plants and fish at my local fish club, on nextdoor, and facebook marketplace. If you are willing to do more work on selling your excess, you could also sell on ebay or other online retailers where you would ship your plants or fish. Shipping anything though requires significantly more work. So, choose your poison.
Here is a video where I go into depth on selling your extra aquatic plants:
Next, lets talk about about selling the solutions you find while solving the problems you ran into while “doing” your hobby. In the fish space, a lot of people have trouble keeping fish alive…I know, fish keeping is more complicated than you thought, huh?
